Let Your Light Shine!
All my ministry life I have emphasized this scripture:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
I memorized this verse on the very first night that I gave my heart to Jesus at Royal Rangers on a Wednesday evening in Aptos, California. I was in the fourth grade. Years later I was called into the ministry and somehow this emphasis of shining the light for a lost world to see has always been prominent as I ministered.
I guess that has hit home with my children too. Today in the Oregonian there is an article written by Taylor Smith highlighting the debut concert and album release of my 21 year old daughter Candice’s secular music career. She wants to be an artist who is a Christian and not a Christian artist. She wants to be a positive role model and share songs that are great music with a message that uplifts and helps people. You can see biblical principles all through the lyrics of the ten original songs on her album. All of them are written from her own life experiences. Her brother Aaron is 24 years old and co-wrote the songs, along with Dave Lubben (producer of the band Kutless). Aaron also assisted Dave on the production of this album. In a way, Aaron is launching his career as a producer and writer today as well. I am very proud of them, they believe that Christians have left a void by pulling out of mainstream entertainment and they are hopeful and prayerful that the Lord will use them to penetrate the darkness in the entertainment industry.
My wife Karen and I have been praying for forty straight days that God would bless this new album and the launch of their careers. Today after the forty days of prayer (with some fasting), the article (link below) came out in the Oregonian.
Would you pray with me for favor, blessing and wisdom as my children venture out in their new careers?
Candice’s first concert and CD release party will be this Friday, August 16, at Memorial Park in Wilsonville, Oregon at 7:00 pm. Aaron will be behind her leading the band, playing guitar and doing back up vocals.
I guess when you try to live your life to reach out, those around you pick up the idea.
Way to go kids, your mom and I love you with all our hearts and we are praying for you!
