Put a Crown Above Their Heads and Watch Them Grow Into It
Stan Russell

I don’t want to be one of those people who are the negative part of someone’s story. You know, the person who thought they couldn’t do it. The one who told them they weren’t good enough. The person who gave them the impression that they weren’t capable enough!
I want to be the person who believed in them and encouraged them. The one who gave them the feeling that God could use them greatly!
Words are crucially important to the development of people! It was said of Jesus that,
“All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips.” Luke 4:22 (NIV)
Children, young people, young adults and all of us, tend to believe what others say about us. If we are encouraged, we have hope and it can make us work harder. If we are talked down to, belittled and criticized, we tend to struggle and feel that perhaps they are right. The bible says:
“The tongue has the power of life and death.” Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
“Words from a wise man’s mouth are gracious.” Ecclesiastes 10:12 (NIV)
I want to be the one who makes people believe that God can use them. I want to be like Jesus and have gracious words. I want to be careful to be encouraging and give people the hope that they can do great things with God’s help.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13  (NIV)
Even when people are not there yet, we can help them get there with positive words. That’s why I like to quote something I heard and have tried to adhere to long ago:
“Put a crown a few inches above their heads and watch them grow into it.”
